That Liveaboard Life TEST SHOW - 10 minutes

TESTING, TESTING... CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW???

I hope you stay with me. I am letting you see behind the scenes as I develop this so please keep that in mind.

I am kicking it old school with this test podcast in that I have not yet picked a podcast broadcasting platform yet. SO what you get when you follow the link the Public Google Drive page the podcast is on, then you can download it. Hope you don't mind the bother just for now until I finalize a platform.

This short bit has some basic information about OLYLA and the effort to preserve liveaboard status in Washington State. This cause is very new, in fact my marina neighbors are the progenitors of the effort as we are in the bay North of the Capitol Campus of Olympia. We can see the building from our boats. The cause is about a month old but already has the attention of lawmakers on the state hill.

That Liveaboard Life podcast and OLYLA are kind of happening together. So I'd rather throw you the raw meat infowise on this because to change law time is of the essence. MORE coming!!

Enjoy!

You live on a boat?

AHOY to YOU!

When I say I live on a boat, the question "You live on a boat?" is mostly the next question. I think it is because the person is adjusting their thinking for a minute as to what to say next. It's an uncommon thing, I remind myself, to live on a boat. To have the audacity. To be different. Seldom does anybody say, "Well that's nice." and go on with the conversation. Usually comes more questions. "What kind of boat?" "What about storms." and, if it is winter, "Are you warm enough?" or if it is summer, "Must be nice."

I am going on my 7th year of full-time boat living. I am questioning my sanity this time of year as it is the start of winter, last night being the first frost and all waking up to frost on the docks... a slippery prospect in our winters here in the northwest on Puget Sound.

I am in great admiration of Alaska liveaboards, wondering how they get along on days like today.

I started this blog because I love podcasting. I have done this and that in multimedia and a year stint as co-host of a busy show. It was a crisis of sorts that made me decide to jump in to do a podcast again and on the topic of liveaboards.

In the State of Washington, about ten years ago, there was an attempt by government to get rid of liveaboards. That was squelched by alert and active citizens of the liveaboard community. Now, there is such an attempt again, but this time it's more backhanded. The effort is now going boat type by boat type, first picking on the houseboats. AND rather than banning all together and incuring the wrath of the public, it is being done marina by marina at the time of their lease negotiations with the state.

As I got my mind around the issue, I realized I wanted to get involved. Even if I am a powerboat liveaboard, I feel that it is a matter of time before we are next. They did it before, they are likely to try again.

So I felt that I wanted to tackle the topic in a very personal way to get the message out about this great lifestyle, a long standing part of the maritime culture and the chosen way of life of so many. Ain't gonna hide it, I plan to support this effort by sharing my business which is nutritional products. I found some wonderful meal replacement products so folks can spend less time in the galley and more time doing the boating life that are also very healthy and nutritious.

My effort here is two days old as of this writing, so if you read this, check back... hope to have a lot more going, including pilot episodes of a show exclusively dedicated to liveaboard life.

Cheers,

Karen C. Patrick
